Most of today I was nursing a totally unfair headache (I did nothing to earn it!) After a midday migraine nap, I went back out with Alison and we got and installed her A/C, then went to my favorite Chicago eatery, Panes Bread cafe at Sheffield and Wellington.
365 days of living...a picture (or a few) EVERY DAY for one full year, and an examination into a life less ordinary.

Tonight I went to get drinks with my darling Alison Adams (with whom I used to drive home daily, so my separation anxiety was seeping in). I saw her fabulous new house and then promptly scheduled a second date, for the next day, to go to Home Depot and get her air conditioner so she wouldn't DIE. It was a billion degrees in her room. She's an amazing painter and is doing a sky focus soon, so we were taking a lot of sky pictures. Fine by me!

Wednesday.... Went to the lake with my darling friend Kelsey! Such a beautiful place and time, even when the water smells faintly of pollution.
It was, I might mention, 101 degrees today with a heat index of 114. And we didn't die!

Three things I love? My roommate, seeing movies, and cotton candy. Today I got all three! (We saw Horrible Bosses, which was okay.)

Monday - This Monday, Darryl and I spent the entire day thinking it was Tuesday. Typical teacher summer - the days all blend together and then suddenly you're back at work. I watched a lot of Parks and Rec today and then we walked to Oberweiss and K-Mart...got some cords to watch some computer TV on the actual TV. Roomie day!

Today a dear friend, Tracy Griffin, married her boyfriend Andy. (Husband now, I guess!) I felt blessed to even be there - I have rarely seen two people like each other so much - they could barely contain their huge smiles! This was a beautiful day and full of amazing people. Fabulous!

Sweet roses from my sweetie for his sweetpea.
And today, at 10:10 my sweetie took off to South America for the adventure of a lifetime. I already miss him. I am immeasurably proud. And that's all I can say right now.

These two days are not together because they are indistinguishable but rather because they kind of became a gentle blend. Lots of sweetness and lots of fun as Brenton and I prepared ourselves as much as possible both mentally and emotionally to be separated for 5 months. We did go on adventures, downtown, long walks and OF COURSE the pool...and just genuinely enjoyed each others' company. I am so proud of Brenton for taking off on this trip but the separating is of course very difficult. These two wonderful days were the perfect way to end our run here in the Windy City together... and I can't wait to see how we grow these 5 months apart and how we get to be reunited in December!
These first three pictures are right after we went to the Travel Clinic and Brenton got vaccinated up and declared "healthy and ready to travel"!
The next picture is Brenton in front of the Colombian Consulate, where he worked so hard to get his visa. He had to jump through hoops and do all sorts of things to make this trip happen and he never gave up on pushing through and making this dream a reality.
And finally some fun and frolicking - pool and pickin' on the guitar (must be pronounced GIT-are).
It was wonderful, just like that boy.

Off to New Haven to see Brenton's Mamaw and Aunt Laura one last time. Kentucky is truly breathtaking and a great way to see that is the Bluegrass Parkway.
And then one last late-night drive back to Chicago...

Saturday in Kentucky is always glorious, but more so than usual when it reunites you with dear old friends. My darling darling Laura was in town (!) so while Brenton went and kicked around with his buddies, I got to go meet the sweetest, most perfectly darling baby in the world, Hattie. The only thing I think I could love more than getting to see my old 'second family' Laura and Amy (and of course Nana, Laura and Mallory) is getting to spend real quality time talking and being in awe of what an awesome and natural mother Laura already is. She is amazing and that is the LUCKIEST baby to have the mama and daddy she does. Following are gratuitous pictures:
Out to lunch above, and then baby's feeding time a little later...
And Mimi is so funny!!!
And you should see this baby girl move! She is barely 5 months but I tell you, this little cruiser will be crawling and possibly pulling up in a matter of weeks. She's amazing!
And finally, the sweetest, smartest, darlingest, most capable mama I know. Look at those gorgeous girls!
Love you family!

After a long drive to Kentucky and a fruitless (for me at least) shopping trip, Brenton and I arrived in Kentucky and enjoyed the hospitality of his friend Kevin. At some point in the night, we found this darling, teeny-tiny frog. And here's Brenton's friend Michael with the teeny-tiny frog.
