JUST LOOK AT THAT HIGH QUALITY WORK!

March 20, 2011

Guess who's really learning Spanish? This girl! Or should I say, "estoy"!

March 19, 2011

The BZLCS girls had to (sigh) go off and WIN yet another cheerleading competition! They were wonderful!

Today was also my fabulous roommate's birthday, and his parents were in town so we celebrated Darryl-style by pretending nothing special was happening and watching basketball.
Happy birthday bestie!

March 18, 2011

I need only share with the world two words: THE. DANCE.

Oh, and we did some work, too. But, you know, whatever. Ha!

ISAT 2011 IS OOOOVVVVVVEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!

March 17, 2011

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I was a super lame today, although I did end up going out and having a green beer (or three).
The most accomplishing thing I did all day was help Tyson (one of my little gang of 8th grader "children") with his diorama. I had forgotten how much fun it is to make middle school art projects.
Yeah, that's right. It's a courtroom. And a damn good one at that.

(Too bad he failed to mention the trial he was researching was an outdoor trial)

March 16, 2011

Wednesdays are the worst, but I always feel most accomplished when they're over. After the "hump day", I am done with 7th grade (exhausting) instruction for the week (except assessing) and that makes all the difference in the world. And ooooowwweeeeeeeee look at that weather forecast! If anything could make Wednesday night better, it's seeing that beautiful 63 attached to Thursday!

March 14, 2011

To take respite from ISAT, the older students put together a "Math Fair" for grades K - 4. My kids did great...one of the times I have been most proud all year. Check them out!

March 13, 2011

How wonderful to have a roommate who is also a bestie. Darryl and I went on our monthly suburbs dinner to Ruby Tuesday this time, and he even let me get ice cream on the way home. :)
By the way, what kind of screwed up Baskin Robbins doesn't have mint chocolate chip ice cream?! Thank goodness for Oberweiss!

March 12, 2011

And after a wonderful layover, off he goes, to brave the Vietnamese jungles, build a school, and become and even greater and more traveled man. :)

March 11, 2011

HELLO, SERENDIPITY!
I was the luckiest girl in the word on this given Friday, or, according to my dear friend Megan, simply caught up in a serendipitous situation. I'll admit, it seems all a little too good to be true and certainly larger than coincidence, especially the aftermath and giddy schoolgirl nature I've adopted since.

Brenton, my person, is in Vietnam. Today (Friday, March 11) his plane was scheduled to fly from Lexington, KY to Chicago, IL. After a quick layover, he was headed to Hong Kong and then onto Vietnam. However, due to some weight restrictions and miscalculations (fate) by United, he and his travel companions ended up "stranded" in Chicago for the night. Along with a sweet setup and a flight voucher, I got to spend some marvelous time with this boy who I am...well...kind of crazy about, I suppose. And about whom I finally feel safely crazy about, for that matter. It was wonderful, going to a fancy hotel dinner and just hanging out. It was like a stay-cation at home, except that it was the first time since summer and really, since about 2 and a half years ago that we have been in the same place and neither of us has had to travel. What a feeling!

March 10, 2011

After school, hanging out with my favorites as usual... Cheyenne was actually going to get her hair done, however... this is the look we settled on!

March 9, 2011

I. am. giving. up. CANDY. for Lent. OOOOOOUUUUUCCCHHHHH says my soul. All in the name of (well the Lord obviously but also).........
Spring Break is coming, and so is bikini weather. And if I am going to stand in the airport and wave goodbye to a certain very good looking boy headed off to the land that gave us Sofia Vergara,  I want to make sure I leave a very lasting impression...and not because I block out everyone behind me!

March 8, 2011

"Fat Tuesday" is always a slap in the face, as it hits right at the time of year I am usually having Fat Monday, Fat Tuesday, Fat Wednesday...etc, and realizing I need to work out.
Got home, exhausted, and had a ton of work to do. So obviously I spent two hours playing ("playing" is a loose term, this means trying to switch chords and attempting picking exercises) guitar, made my fingers bleed and called it a night.

March 7, 2011

A little gem I discovered today...
This is from my first year of teaching.
I am curious about the contents and will
definitely keep you posted!

March 6, 2011

Driving back to Chicago = the opposite of driving to Lexington. It is not a relief to get onto the Interstate. It is not fun to see the Kentucky signs in reverse. It has never, not once in all three years, felt good to drive away from the people I love. It hurts every single time and even though I don't want to live in Lexington, I would do it if it meant I could see those dearest to me whenever I want to.

I want to live without ever, ever having to see Brenton (or my home) in my rear view mirror again. I want them always in front of me.

As another shout out to my BBBFFFFFFFFFF Shawn, on the way out of town this time around I snapped a pic of the mural. You know, bestie. :)

March 5, 2011

Brenton is headed to Vietnam for 2 weeks this weekend. I am always so amazed and impressed by how well he prepares for things and how talented he is about immersing himself in knowledge. I am extreeeemmmmeeeelllyyy jealous of this trip and I know he will have an amazing time. (Have you SEEN Vietnamese beaches??
This is my Daddy, tuning/fixing a bass guitar. My parents are amazing, I mean really the best in the world.
My job is so so hard and there are times I feel beaten into the ground and I don't even know how to get back up. In the worst of the worst of times, I have the knowledge that there are two people in the world - and smart, hilarious, talented, capable, incredible people - who love me best of all. I am so blessed. I will be a Daddy's girl until the day I die and nothing - no man, no job, no distance - nothing will ever change that.

March 4, 2011

I love driving home, even when the drive is long and annoying and super super rainy. Home is just so right, whether or not I go back there any time soon for good. You can take the girl out of Kentucky, but you can't take the Kentucky out of the girl. Brenton has a song that is still tentatively titled, but I call it (and now he calls it, often) "Coming Home". He wrote it and it is a beautiful guitar song, and the strains are haunting and when you hear it, it sounds like a country summer sunset  and feels like when I round the bend on I-75 after merging away from 64 and see the sign that says 'Airport Lexington' and I know that within 10 minutes I'll be back where I belong.

An every good road trip, as always will be known by my best best friend Shawn Michael Coner, needs a Speedway slushie.

March 3, 2011

Today was pretty freaking awful.
Enjoying life's little pleasures... like cleeeeaan sheets!

March 2, 2011

My life is boring.
Delicious and dangerous.
Hello, 10 pounds.
Hello, Spring Break Diet.

March 1, 2011

I have the best helpers. These darlings stayed until 6:00 helping teachers finish getting classrooms ISAT ready. LOVE my 8th graders.

February 28, 2011

Does anyone really like Mondays? They are by far my least favorite day of the week, even in the summer. I know there's a stigma attached to the whole thing, but they honestly just feel like you can never get enough done and there is so much to do and they always have something crappy that happens. On this one, my kids were off the chain all day and at the end of the day, I didn't even feel like making more posters to help them on the ISAT - yet, of course, I did. (I was also just seriiiiously behind on my poster hanging in math class!)

February 27, 2011

Still postering away, as well as indulging in a hard apartment cleaning, laundry, and Target trip. Great Sunday in Chicago... and sometimes a girl just needs a good mani/pedi.

February 26, 2011

All day at school... ISAT's a comin', and this girl's room is the HOTTEST!

February 25, 2011

Headed back to school, still feeling not-so-hot. My kids were terrified that I was going to contract TB and go away forever after my actually being sick for 2 days, so they were decent. Then we had the final boy's basketball game of the year and the boys were AWESOME and won! Go BZ!

February 23 and February 24, 2011

Indistinguishable. On Wednesday Minute Clinic turned me away. Then I found out I had an upper respiratory - sinus - strep throat infection. Triple whammy.

February 22, 2011

This day was un-fun, as my sudden onset sickness went from sucking (in the morning) to causing my downfall (after going into work). Followed by two days of unmemorable misery... and the first sick days I've had where I could physically not do any work.
